Ruby on Rails Screencast - Iteration 1 - David Heinemeier Hansson
This screencast is a pair programming session between David Heinemeier Hansson and myself (Miles K. Forrest). I'm new to web application programming and a "bunny hill" rails developer at best, so to have a world-class developer take the time to go over some basics on how to get started was very encouraging and valuable to me. If you're also new to Rails perhaps this 35 minute screencast might help point you in the right direction.
Over the coming weeks it's my intention to build a working Rails application that I need and record the journey through this series of screencasts. I welcome anyone to do a screencast with me who is interested in sharing their expertise and is patient enough to teach a slow learner like myself.

Hi, I'm Miles K. Forrest. I'm a wannabe coder trying to forge my own path through the software design world jungle. Although I'm not a great programmer, I've met many folks who are. I hope these screencasts encourage you to keep hacking away at Ruby on Rails and to have fun.

Thanks! I've been watching, and reading about Rails for a while now, and I think this interview was very helpful in giving me the push I need to try our Rails for my next project.
The unrehearsed flavor of it worked really nicely.
We want more.
Thanks for putting this together Miles. I just started learning Rails about a month or so ago and got a Macbook Pro as well. Coming from (Ubuntu) Linux, I was a little lost on what applications to use. I had of course found Textmate (I also like RadRails), but I had not heard of CocoaMysql until I watched the screencast. Keep up the great work!
P.S. As a skier, I enjoyed the skiing reference!
For having little radio experience you really did a great job. Thanks for this! You have a natural interview flow, I can't wait to see you develop this and, as one of the previous commenters wrote, we want more!
Loved the 1st screencast, I'm at the same level at you but have been reading the Ruby for Rails book before I even started Rails. Looking forward to future casts and learning anything I can.
cocoamysql has not been updated in THREE years. It had been abandoned before Rails was even a gleam in DHH's eye!
If you're looking for a more current client for the Mac, try the excellent YourSQL: http://yoursql.ludit.it/
Can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching a screencast.
And what a relief! DHH seems to be a human being, one that forgets stuff, does typos, etc. - just like you and me, squatting on the bunny hill. But wait a second... Have you seen those tricks he did in Textmate? Well, whatever...
I want more!
I've seen your screencast, very interesting! thanks,
I'm gonna see the second also.
